Sensex, Nifty, Share Prices LIVE: Benchmark indices had ended the previous session on a weak note, with both BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty declining nearly 1 per cent on Monday amid rising global uncertainties. The 30-share Sensex fell 702.68 points, or 0.91 per cent, to close at 76,847.57, after plunging as much as 1,681.93 points during the day. The broader Nifty dropped 207.95 points, or 0.86 per cent, to settle at 23,842.65.
Market sentiment was weighed down by escalating geopolitical tensions following the breakdown of talks between the US and Iran, raising fears of a prolonged conflict. This triggered a sharp surge in global crude oil prices, with Brent crude jumping 7.73 per cent to USD 102.6 per barrel.
Asian markets such as Japanās Nikkei 225, South Koreaās Kospi and Hong Kongās Hang Seng ended lower, while Chinaās Shanghai Composite index closed marginally higher. European markets were also trading in negative territory.
